“Live your life with an eternal point of view”
(credit to Wendy Pope for this quote, which I read many, many years ago).
We all want to be happy but we are only deeply, truly happy when we are ordered towards God (this is true “peace”, the tranquility of being ordered to Christ). Pay attention to what it feels like when you do something ordered to Christ, something that brings true happiness/peace - be it serving others, reading the saints, praying well - there is a deeper happiness there than you feel when you’re out having fun with friends or eating ice cream (although these are good things). Actively seek out chances to do those things.
We come to truly know Christ through the transcendentals - the true, the good, the beautiful - but each of us responds to one of them as a primary. Figure out which it is for you, and seek those things especially (Phillipians 4:8).
